- Key functions & working principle
| Working Principle |
1. Fuel Level Detection:
- Resistive type: A float attached to a variable resistor moves with fuel level; changes in resistance correspond to fuel volume (transmitted as an analog signal to ECU).
- Capacitive type: The probe acts as a capacitor; fuel (dielectric material) changes the probe’s capacitance, which is converted to a digital signal for fuel level calculation. |
2. Water Detection:
Water is denser than diesel and settles at the tank bottom. The probe’s lower section has dedicated sensors that detect the conductive properties of water (vs. non-conductive diesel). When water layer reaches ≥5 mm, the sensor sends an alarm signal to the ECU. |
