1. A drilled hole (matching the pin’s OD) is pre-machined in the shaft/bolt and mating component (e.g., linkage arm) |
| 2. The spring pin is inserted into the hole (using a hammer/driver tool) – the slot compresses, reducing the pin’s OD to fit the hole |
| 3. Once fully inserted, the pin’s spring steel elasticity forces it to expand outward, pressing against the hole walls to create a tight friction fit |
| 4. The expanded pin locks the shaft/bolt in place, preventing axial/rotational movement and disengagement during equipment operation |
